The acclaimed Broadway Sings concert series will continue on December 3 at 8pm, honoring singer-songwriter John Legend with a bombshell cast of Broadway stars including Eden Espinosa (Brooklyn), J. Harrison Ghee (Kinky Boots) and Solea Pfeiffer (Hamilton). The one-night-only concert will feature completely new arrangements of the hits of the American singer, accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing original orchestrations of his music.
Also featured in the lineup are Max Chernin (Bright Star), Mark Evans (The Play That Goes Wrong), Aisha Jackson (Frozen), Brittney Johnson (Wicked), Corey Mach (Kinky Boots), Justin Mortelliti (Escape to Margaritaville), Colton Ryan (Dear Evan Hansen), Ryan Vasquez (Hamilton), and Raena White (Chicago) with more to be announced at a later date.
The concert will give tribute to this soulful R&B singer and his extensive repertoire, including “Glory”, “All of Me”, “Like I’m Gonna Love You”, and “Ordinary People”. The music will be orchestrated and arranged by Joshua Stephen Kartes.
John Legend has released five studio albums, four live albums, and has recently entered the much sought-after EGOT status. He has received ten Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award (for the recent NBC adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar), an Academy Award for co-writing the song “Glory” from the film Selma, and a Tony Award for co-producing Jitney on Broadway. He is one of 15 people (and the first African-American man) to achieve the EGOT status. Legend is also known for being actively involved in charity work and philanthropy, raising awareness for issues such as poverty, education, and criminal justice reform.
Broadway Sings John Legend, produced and directed by Corey Mach (Invisible Thread, Wicked), will celebrate the talent and success of this award-winning performer. Previous artists honored in the series include Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, The Beatles, and most recently Alanis Morissette.
