OohLaLA! is all about exclusives. The following is a first-class one: we are honored to introduce you to the French & English duo Tomorrow’s World, and their very first shows in America. Comprised of Jean-Benoit Dunckel, half of the duo Air - unmistakably one of the most respected electro-pop bands in the world since their debut album Moon Safari in 1998 - and the London-based singer Lou Hayter (The New Siins, New Young Pony Club), the duo formed two years ago with no expectation other than to record one track for their own pleasure. It quickly turned out that their artistic universes fused so well and so naturally, they couldn’t help but record dozens of additional songs. While waiting for their debut album due in 2013, we warmly encourage you to experience this performance live. Tomorrow’s World creates cinematic and emotional noir-pop love songs. They synthetize feminity, darkness and timeless feelings with their electro minimalist tunes, which then soar to a heightened drama with their eerie yet appealing starkness. Their influences range from Suicide to David Lynch’s favorite composer Angelo Badalamenti to Factory Floor, and are relevant illustrations of their picturesque and tense world. In a way, Tomorrow’s World follows Air’s steps in its achievement of composing stories.
Housse de Racket
There’s a lengthy list of impressive names who have employed Pierre Leroux and Victor Le Masne, aka Housse de Racket, as session musicians: Phoenix, Air, Gonzales (OohLaLA 2009 act!), Alex Gopher or Stardust. These instances lead to the formation of the duo in 2008.
One debut album and more than 200 shows around the world convinced the French pop duo to extend their potential worldwide. Now add the notorious producer of their second album, Alesia, Philippe Zdar (half of Cassius and producer of The Rapture, Beastie Boys, among others), plus their record label Kitsuné (acclaimed label behind many revered acts such as Two Door Cinema Club) to the equation and it’s easy to see how Housse de Racket’s potential is propelling them to their destiny.
Housse de Racket embody the most essential artistic skills: very specific and genuine song-writing enveloped in exquisite pop-electro tunes. As well as good taste and savoir faire. With a tinge of psychedelia, Alesia is an elixir of the new mythical French pop. After their US tour last spring, which included SXSW and Coachella, the long-awaited Housse de Racket will undoubtedly rock OohLaLA! in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal and NYC at CMJ!
Addiction. This is the first feeling one gets when one hears Lescop’s words. Obsession. The second feeling.
Lescop has been developing his project in London with John & Jehn (Pop Noire Records), reinventing the French New Wave somewhere in between Etienne Daho, Taxi Girl and Joy Division. Both dramatic and danceable, and full of tension, Lescop is a pure, great new wave thrill.
In France, Lescop is a long-awaited, new top-tier pop act and OohLaLA! is proud to have him make his first steps in America with us.
LA, San Francisco, Montreal, NYC - you may all fall hard for his unrivaled universe.
London-based English band Citizens! is the brand new exalting Kitsuné signing, a label proving to be a leader in discovering emerging talent. Citizens! label mates Two Door Cinema Club were hailed as “the biggest band on the planet” by NME.
This position may be soon filled by Citizens!
Here We Are is Citizens!’s debut album. Indeed, here they are, one of the most thrilling acts in Europe in 2012 with electro-pop hits (‘Reptile,’ ‘True Romance’), a top-notch producer (no one else than Alex Kapranos, Franz Ferdinand’s leader), and high-powered live shows, making Citizens! the new English favorites. As with their predecessors, this band’s first shows in America are not to be missed.
