Meany USA presents a night of performances by outstanding NYC artists, featuring roots rock band Old Soul, spyrock pioneer Don Gator, funky soul keyboardist and vocalist Jason Yudoff, poet and chanteuse Shanelle Gabriel, innovative pop and R&B artist Lydia Caesar, and more!
Old Soul is a rock 'n' roll band out of New York City made up of three songwriters: Lincoln, Jackson, and Satchel. The rhythm section features Tbone on drums and Freddy on steel drum, giving the band's roots rock songwriting a fresh sound. Formed on Bleecker Street in 2008, where this group of friends got into jams that could last six hours long, this band developed an explosive live show and a distinct sound that is both new and familiar. Old Soul had its first headlining CMJ showcase in 2009, followed by SXSW in 2010 and a successful Northeast tour. In 2011, drummer Tbone was hired back to Public Enemy, and Lincoln, Jackson, and Satchel started arranging their debut record, set to be released in the fall of 2012. While Tbone splits his time between Public Enemy and Old Soul this summer, the band will be performing select dates in the Northeast.
Had it not been for the travel demands of life as an international model, songwriter Dennis Hirdt might never have birthed the genre known as spyrock. "I'd get a call from an agency rep with an accented voice who'd tell me which country I was flying to next," Hirdt said. "I'd hang out in strange and exotic circles, and everybody wanted to shoot me – pretty similar to being a spy." Hirdt created his alter ego, Don Gator, and a story rife with intrigue, chase scenes, and hot rendezvous set against a spy backdrop. Like surf rock, spyrock relies on guitars for sexy dance beats, so Justin Gild takes the lead, supported by Ben Rosenberg. Dan Wintersteen on drums and Rus Wimbish on bass round out the rhythm section, backing Hirdt's all-out Chili Peppers-esque vocals.

Shanelle Gabriel has been labeled a virtuosa, and she definitely validates that statement as a soulful singer, gifted writer, astounding actress, and advocate for Lupus awareness. Frequently compared to Lauryn Hill and the super duo Floetry wrapped into one, Gabriel's tenacity has allowed her to become a shining star in any path she treads. She has performed and collaborated with artists like Nas, Eric Benét, and Talib Kweli, and with comedians like Rob Stapleton and Michael Blackson, appearing at colleges and venues across the country. Using her upbeat pop, old school hip-hop, and inspirational soul sound, Gabriel lets her vibrant personality shines through each word and melody she shares.
She walks into a room and commands your attention. She opens her mouth and makes people smile. She takes the stage and you will never forget her. Lydia Caesar is an experience. An artist that can truly sings sans the vocal tricks and studio manipulation. A songwriter penning songs with heartfelt words from beginning to end and the stage presence of an icon. Caesar's star power has garnered her the crowns of several NYC showcases and has afforded her the opportunity to share stages with today's hottest artists, including Trey Songz and Robin Thicke. She recently released her first single, "Lottery," off her forthcoming self-titled debut album.
