Multi-Grammy Award winning artists Robert Sput Searight and Nate Werth take percussion out of the shadows and into the spotlight with their new project, Ghost-Note. World renown for their ongoing catalog with international sensation Snarky Puppy, this dynamic duo expands their rhythmical voice into a celebration of music in all its forms. This is music that takes listeners on a mind-blowing journey, inspired by the influences of James Brown, Prince, and J Dilla to name a few.
Since forming, Ghost-Note’s sound has evolved to a state that can best be described as ‘conscious funk’ – an elaborate and sonically powerful surge of the tremendous talents that each of the players provides, with the bandleaders leaning back and letting the band go. The core lineup is a rotating cast of heavy hitters – all stretching to meet the expanding nature of the band. The explosive rhythm fueled band, deeply rooted in neck breaking funk, is comprised of the industry’s best and quickly becoming one of the most anticipated live shows of today.
Band members include A.J. Brown (Fred Hammond) on bass, internet star Dywane “MonoNeon” Thomas (Prince) on bass & guitar, Sylvester Onyejiaka (Prince, Quantic) baritone sax, tenor sax, & flute, Xavier Taplin (Prince) on keyboards, Jonathan Mones (Funky Knuckles, RC and the Gritz) on alto sax & flute, Mike Jelani Brooks (Kirk Franklin, RC & the Gritz) on tenor saxophone & flute, Justin Stanton (Snarky Puppy) on keyboards, Vaughn “V-keys” Henry on keyboards, Daniel Jones (Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake) on keyboards, Nick Werth (Galaxe, Yak Attack) on xylosynth, and Alvin Ford Jr. (Pretty Lights, Dumpstaphunk) on drums.
Brass Against The Machine
Remember when Rage Against the Machine released the “Sleep Now in the Fire” music video in 2000 that predicted Trump as president? Turns out, Rage Against the Machine’s music is more relevant now than ever. That’s why we’ve formed Brass Against the Machine, a NYC-based brass band covering rage and other protest music—because we need this music now more than ever before.
Brass Against the Machine features 9 band members: Andrew Gutauskas (Bari Sax/Arranger), Brad Hammonds (Guitar/Arranger), Darius Christian (Vocals/Trombone), Sophia Urista (Vocals), Mariel Bildsten (Trombone), Wayne Tucker (Trumpet), Oskar Stenmark (Trumpet), Steven Duffy (Sousaphone) and Nathan Bell (Drums)—some of NYC’s top musicians. They’ve come together to form a unique brass band that combines rock and edgy hip-hop to create music that is both powerful and empowering.
Founded by Brad Hammonds, the band covers Rage Against the Machine, Living Colour, Gil Scott Heron, Janes Addiction, A Tribe Called Quest, and Led Zeppelin, amongst others. For their latest video they decided to mash Beyoncé’s Freedom with RATM’s Freedom.
In a politically challenging era, it’s our time to stand up against the machine. Brass Against the Machine’s first and foremost goal is to make exceptional music. Yet we would be remiss to not also note the unfortunately exceptional times we live in. We want our music to not just sound inspiring; we want our music to resonate with people’s emotions and encourage action. We’re producing exceptional music with a political edge.
We are angry, we are inspired, we are ready for change—and we hope our music amplifies this energy in everyone who listens.
