SAUTI SOL was formed in 2006 by four friends who love music and giving people fantastic musical experiences. They started out playing at family events around Nairobi before realising it was possible to turn their passion into a career. Bien, Chimano, Polycarp and Savara have since honed their craft and become the most celebrated Kenyan act of all time.
Today, their music is a blend of resonant pop lyrics with traditional Kenyan influences and soulful vocals that resonates with listeners all over the world.
Appropriately crowned the Best African Act at the MTV European Music Awards, their performances are an exuberant expression of musicianship where all their unique talents come together as one to give audiences an experience filled with energy, dancing and a whole lot of fun.
Audience members have commented, What I love about Sauti is that they engage the entire crowd. Whether you are at the back or right in front of the stage, youll have a phenomenal experience! and You cant sit through a Sauti Sol performance, everybody gets up and vibes with them! They just look like theyre having the best time on stage.
Their self-produced album Live and Die in Afrika (LADIA, 2015) received major critical acclaim and propelled them to a level of success seldom reached by East African artists. The album included hits such as Still the One and the break out single Sura Yako that launched the group to international markets. This is the song that got the band global press coverage as it compelled President Obama to dance along as they performed during his state visit to Nairobi and became an instant classic for traditional ceremonies around Kenya.
With the success of LADIA, Sauti Sol went on to share the stage with industry heavyweights such as Coldplay and Pearl Jam. Additionally they self-produced the first Kenyan nationwide tour playing in six cities for audiences of over 6000 people.
Their current project is the Afrikan Sauce LP, a collaborative effort featuring the biggest artists on the continent such as Patoranking, Tiwa Savage and Burna Boy. A tour-de-force of African ingenuity, the lead single, Melanin, was an instant hit with the vibrant video garnering a whooping 4.6 million views on YouTube within a month of release. To date this is the only video by a Kenyan artist to hit over 10 million views.
The bands passion is playing live and sharing good vibes with their audiences. Their first global project to this effect is the Melanin World Tour which will see Sauti Sol perform in four continents, over 15 countries and numerous cities! From Australia to Canada, Malawi to Finland Sauti Sol will be giving their fans unforgettable experiences backed by an endless number of hits.
