Road to Rockaway

This past Sunday, staff from Highline Ballroom, BB King Blues Club & Blue Note Jazz Club drove down to Rockaway Beach with a van full of volunteers, water & donations. One can never really prepare to face the reality of what’s been reported of the destruction left behind from Hurricane Sandy. But what we saw, from boats lifted out of the water onto the street, to cars abandoned from being drowned in saltwater, from make-shift soup kitchens set up on the street corner providing hot meals to lines of people, to power outages still existing for many throughout the area, this only proves more than ever that we must gather every bit of altruism and selfless part within ourselves to reach out in any way we can, whether through monetary donations, food and water donations, or volunteering.

Sunday, we donated our time to Parks and Recreation, specifically a children’s playground completely overrun with more than a foot or two of sand, rendering it unsafe to play in. We may have only accomplished about 10% of the work needed to be done here, but we will return, hopefully with more hands and hearts.
